It is uncanny how many successful novelists have roots in Oxford. Then again, after spending a weekend in that charming little city, it really isn’t uncanny at all. It was one of the most picturesque experiences of my time abroad, a chalk pavement picture from Mary Poppins under a silver Sunday sky threatening rain to wash the magic away.
If at all in your power, dear fellow writers-in-training, travel. Get on a train or a bus and go Somewhere with nothing but a change of clothes and a notebook in your bag, and you will find inspiration. It’s waiting for you.
